Closing Bell: Nifty ends above 17900, Sensex up 348 pts

 

Closing Bell-Sensex and Nifty Today 26 April 2023: Indian stock markets opened flat on Thursday amid weak global cues. The domestic markets gradually extended their gains as the session progressed and closed near the day’s high on the monthly F&O expiry day.

 

Stock Market Indexes Today

 

The Nifty 50 index closed higher by 101.45 points or 0.57 percent and closed at 17915.05 levels while the Sensex was up by 348.80 points or 0.58 percent and finished at 60649.38 levels. The Bank Nifty index ended higher by 170.95 points or 0.40 percent on the spot level and closed at 43000.85 levels

The broader markets also ended higher today, as the Nifty midcap index was up by 175.35 points or 0.56 percent and closed at 31404.20 levels. The Nifty smallcap index closed higher by 76.20 points or 0.80 percent at 9592.50 levels.

 

Nifty 50 top gainers & losers 

 

The top gainers in the Nifty 50 index were Bajaj Auto, Bajaj Finance, BPCL, Bajaj Finserve, and Bharti Airtel and the top losers were HDFC Life, HUL, Power Grid, Adani Port, and Axis Bank

The top gainers in the Nifty midcap index were LTTS, Idea, and Tata Elxsi and the top losers were Voltas, Laurus Labs, and Lupin

 The smallcap top gainers were MRPL, Raymond, and Glenmark while the top losers were Brightcom group, FACT, and Quess Corp

The most active stocks in the Nifty index in terms of value were HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, and Bajaj Finance The most active stocks in terms of volume were  ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, and Tata Steel.

On the sectoral front, barring FMCG all other sectoral indices closed in the green today. Realty, IT, Auto, and Metal sectors closed as top gainers.

 

Global stock markets

 

On the global front, Asian market indexes mostly erased early losses and closed in the green, as investors focus on the Bank of Japan’s policy meeting led by new BOJ governor Kazuo Ueda. It is expected that the new BoJ Governor would maintain the ultra-loose monetary policy of his predecessor Haruhiko Kuroda for now.  All three major indexes Nikkei, Hang Seng, and Shanghai closed in the positive territory today.

European stock market indexes are trading higher following the mixed cues from Wall Street.  Investor’s concern about banking sector stability continued to overshadow yet another massive dump of corporate earnings and updates.
