Closing Bell: Nifty reclaims 18000 mark, Sensex up 463 pts
Closing Bell: Nifty and Sensex Today 28 April 2023- Indian stock markets opened slightly higher on Friday amid positive global cues. Soon after opening, the domestic equity indexes erased all early gains. In the afternoon session, markets gradually moved in a northward direction and closed on a strong note near the day’s high, Nifty rallied sharply higher in the last hour and reclaims the 18000 mark today.
Stock Market Indexes Today
The Nifty 50 index closed higher by 149.95 points or 0.84 percent and closed at 18065 levels while the Sensex was up by 463.06 points or 0.76 percent and finished at 61112.44 levels. The Bank Nifty index ended higher by 233.05 points or 0.54 percent on the spot level and closed at 43233.90 levels
The broader markets outperformed the benchmarks today, as the Nifty midcap index was up by 390.55 points or 1.24 percent and closed at 31794.75 levels. The Nifty smallcap index closed higher by 80.05 points or 0.83 percent at 9672.55 levels.
Nifty 50 top gainers & losers
The top gainers in the Nifty 50 index were Adani Enterprise, Adani Ports, Britannia, Nestle India, and Wipro and the top losers were Axis Bank, JSWSteel, Titan, ONGC, and HCL Tech
The top gainers in the Nifty midcap index were Zeel, REC Ltd, and Laurus Lab and the top losers were Shriram Finance, Crompton, and NHPC
The smallcap top gainers were Uco Bank, MRPL, and Central Bank while the top losers were Raymond, Brightcom Group, and CESC
The most active stocks in the Nifty index in terms of value were HDFC Bank, Axis Bank, and ICICI Bank. The most active stocks in terms of volume were Tata Steel, Axis Bank, and NTPC
On the sectoral front, all other sectoral indices closed in the green today. PSU Bank, Media, IT, and Energy sectors closed as top gainers.
Global stock markets
On the global front, Asian market indexes mostly closed higher on Friday following the positive cues from Wall Street overnight. The sentiments become optimistic after the Bank of Japan kept the monetary policy unchanged. All key indexes in the region closed in the green today.
European stock market indexes are trading lower on Friday following the negative US futures, which indicates a lower opening for US markets as Amazon reported disappointing results on Thursday post markets.
