Closing Bell: Sensex, Nifty end marginally lower today

 

Closing Bell: Sensex and Nifty Today: Indian stock market indexes opened higher on Tuesday as indicated by the SGX in the morning. Nifty today opened at 17110.70 levels, up by 94.6 points while Sensex made a positive opening of 231.3 points at 57376.52 levels. The benchmark indices turned negative in the late morning session and later closed marginally lower after a volatile session.

The market sentiments got boosted, as Chief Economic Advisor (CEA) V Anantha Nageswaran said the Indian economy is showing resilience and on the path to recovery. He added that private demand and the services sector are doing better than expected. Traders took note of the report that the economic grouping OECD in a report retained the GDP growth projections for India at 6.9 percent for the current financial year despite the global economy losing momentum in wake of the Russia-Ukraine war.

Traders remained cautious as FIIs turned net sellers in the last four trading sessions. On Monday, FIIs sold Rs 5101.30 crore worth of equity shares in the Indian markets. However, markets got some support from US futures, as Dow and Nasdaq futures are trading higher indicating a strong opening for the US markets today.

On the global front, Asian markets were mostly closed in the green today. Traders remained cautiously optimistic, as they believe the heavy selling in recent session has been overdone. The stock market indexes of Japan and Shanghai closed higher, erasing some losses in the previous sessions. European stock market key indexes are trading in the green at th3.30 pm IST

Sensex and Nifty at the close today 

The Nifty50 index was down by 8.90 points or 0.05 percent and closed at 17007.40 levels while the Sensex declined by 37.70 points or 0.07 percent and finished at 57107.52 levels. The Bank Nifty index ended lower today by 257.10 points or 0.67 percent on the spot level and ended at 38359.15

The broader markets outperformed the benchmark indices today, as the Nifty midcap index gained by 48.90 points or 0.16 percent and closed at 30160.70 levels. The Nifty smallcap index closed higher today by 23.40 points or 0.25 percent at 9285.95 levels.

 

Nifty50 Stocks top gainers and losers today

 

The top gainers in the Nifty50 Stocks were Cipla, Tata Consumer, Shree Cement, Power Grid, and BPCL and the top losers were Hero Motocorp, Adani Ports, Tata Steel, Titan Company, and Kotak Mahindra

The midcap top gainers were Mahanagar Gas, Gujarat Gas, and Mind tree, and the top losers were Varun Beverages, Emami, and Indiabulls Hsg

The top gainers in the Nifty smallcap index were RITES, Kalpataru Power, and  Mazgaon Dock and the top losers were Heidelberg Cem, Shilpa, and Can Fin Homes

The most active stocks in the Nifty index in terms of value were Reliance, Infy, and Adani Ports The most active stocks in terms of volume were Tata Steel, Power Grid, and Tata Motors

On the sectoral front, Oil & Gas, Pharma, IT, FMCG, and Media closed higher today. The sectors that dragged down the markets were Metals, Financial Services, Banking, and Auto.
