Indian Stock Market Weekly Update (30 Jan- 3 Feb 2023 ): Indian equity market indexes advanced for the week, after a sharp fall in the previous week. It was the busiest and most highly volatile week of the year 2023, as both domestic and global events were lined up. The equity benchmarks Sensex and Nifty gained 2.55 percent and 1.42 percent respectively. The market upside remained capped despite a growth-oriented union budget delivered on 1st Feb. The sentiments were dampened due to a selloff in Adani stocks and consistent FIIs outflow.

However the domestic markets got support from the global markets, as Fed, ECB, and BoE hiked interest rates as widely expected. The optimistic quarterly earnings from the US and domestic corporates also lifted the market sentiments during the week. There was some respite in the rout of Gautam Adani’s companies in the second half on Friday, which pared early week losses.

Among the sectors, FMCG, Bank, and IT sectors closed higher while Metals, Pharma, Media, and Realty witnessed correction during the week. FIIs were net sellers, they offloaded Rs 14445.02 crore worth of equity shares while DIIs bought Rs 14184.51 crore during the week.

Indian Stock Market Indexes (30 Jan – 3 Feb 2023)

On a weekly basis, Sensex jumped 1510.98 points or 2.55%, and closed at 60841.88, while the Nifty was up by 249.7 points or 1.42%, and ended at 17854.05 levels. The Bank Nifty index also gained by 1154.4 points or 2.86 % and finished at 41499.7 levels.

The broader markets also gained during the week. The Nifty midcap index slightly underperformed the frontline index, ended higher by 136.2 points or 0.45 percent, and at 30378.1 levels. The Nifty small-cap index was up 172.85 points or 1.88 percent and ended at 9415.55 levels during the week.
