Nifty 50 index end above 18400, Sensex up 108 pts today
Sensex and Nifty 50 index Today: Indian stock markets opened slightly lower on Wednesday as indicated by the SGX Nifty in the morning. Nifty 50 today opened at 18398.25 levels down by 5.15 points while Sensex made a negative opening of 164.36 points at 61708.63 levels. Indian markets traded volatile in a narrow range and closed slightly higher on Wednesday.

Markets got some support with reports that States got some reprieve in their debt cost with the weighted average price falling by 12 bps to 7.67 percent due to receding appetite from issuers as they received tax payouts from the Centre last week.
Some support also came in with a private report stating that India’s IT and business services market grew 7.4 percent in the first half of 2022, compared to 6.4 percent in the same period last year, and helped by enterprises investing in digital transformation.
The other Asian market indexes mostly closed in the red on Wednesday, as the value of core machine orders in Japan fell in the month of September. European markets are trading mostly in the red despite positive cues from the US markets.
The sentiments in European markets are downbeat as a Russian missile strike on Poland overnight killed two people, and investors across the globe are concerned about the fresh geopolitical tension.
Sensex and Nifty 50 index at the close today
The Nifty 50 index was up by 6.25 points or 0.03 percent and closed at 18409.65 levels while the Sensex gained by 107.73 points or 0.17 percent and finished at 61980.72 levels. The Bank Nifty index closed higher by 162.60 points or 0.38 percent on the spot level and ended at 42535.30
The broader markets underperformed the benchmarks today, as the Nifty midcap index closed lower by 205.65 points or 0.65 percent and at 31197.90levels. The Nifty smallcap index was down by 80.75 points or 0.83 percent at 9696.55 levels.

The top gainers in the Nifty 50 Stocks were Kotak Mahindra, Coal India, Dr. Reddy’s Lab, HDFC Bank, and HUL and the top losers were Apollo Hospital, Adani Enterprises, Adani Ports, Hindalco, and JSW Steel
The top gainers in the Nifty midcap index were Hindustan Aeron, Union Bank, and Varun Beverages, and the top losers were Apollo Tyers, Indiabulls Hsg, and Dhani Services
The smallcap top gainers were GMM Pfaudler, Rail Vikas, and Cyient while the top losers were Delta Corp, Rain Industries, and Can Fin Homes
The most active stocks in the Nifty index in terms of value were Kotak Bank, Adani Entert, and ICICI Bank The most active stocks in terms of volume were Tata Steel, ICICI Bank, and SBI
On the sectoral front, the metals, media, realty, oil & gas, and auto sectors were closed lower today. The sectors that closed higher were Banking Financial Services, and IT
