Nifty 50 and Sensex in the Red: Media & Realty Stocks Weighing Down Markets
Sensex and Nifty 50 Today Oct 16, 2023: Indian stock market indices opened on a cautious note on Monday, following the negative global cues. The Nifty 50 index opened slightly lower by 13.8 points at 19737.25 levels, while Sensex made a negative opening of 44.59 points at 66238.15 levels. The Bank Nifty opened lower at 83.2 points at the 44204.75 level.

Market Live at 9.35 am IST, the Indian stock market indices, Sensex and Nifty 50 are trading marginally lower by 0.26 percent and 0.27 percent respectively. The Bank Nifty is also trading lower by 0.39 percent at 9.35 IST. The broader markets are trading mixed today, as the Nifty mid-cap index is trading slightly lower by 0.13 percent, while the smallcap index is trading higher by 0.12 percent.
Among the sectors, PSU Bank, Auto, and Metal indices are top gainers, while Media, Realty, and Financial Services dragging down the markets
The top-gaining stocks in the Nifty 50 index are Tata Motors, ONGC, HCL Tech, Coal India, and Hero Motors and the top losing stocks are Nestle, Divislab, Asian Paints, BPCL, and IndusInd Bank.
The most active stocks in NSE in terms of value are HDFC Bank, Tata Motors, and Infy, in terms of volume Tata Steel, ONGC, and Tata Steel.

The other Asian stock markets started the week on the back foot as investors are looking ahead for crucial economic data in the region later this week. Japan’s Nikkei extended early losses and is trading lower by 1.80 percent while Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 is down by 0.39 percent.
South Korea’s Kospi has also extended opening losses and dipped 1.26 percent on the first trading day of the week. Shanghai index is trading lower by 0.40 percent while Hang Seng erased all early gains and trading slightly lower by 0.29 percent.
Elsewhere, the Straits Times, Taiwan, SET Composite, and Jakarta all are trading in the red at this time 9.05 am IST.
