Nifty end above 18k; Sensex up 243 pts; Realty, Auto top gainers

 

Sensex & Nifty at close: Indian stock markets erased early losses and closed higher on Wednesday despite negative cues from Asian markets. The Nifty 50 index closed higher by 86 points or 0.48 percent and closed at 18015.85 levels while the Sensex was up by 242.83 points or 0.40 percent and finished at 61275.09 levels. The Bank Nifty index ended in the green, up by 82.70 points or 0.20% on the spot level, and closed at 41731.05 levels

The broader markets also closed higher today, as the Nifty midcap index was up by 189.20 points or 0.62 percent and closed at 30671 levels. The Nifty smallcap index closed higher by 28.15 points or 0.30 percent at 9378.85 levels.

 

Nifty top gainers & losers

 

The top gainers in the Nifty 50 index were Tech Mahindra, Apollo Hospital, Eicher Motors, Reliance, and Adani Enterp, and the top losers were HUL, Sun Pharma, ITC, Larsen, and ONGC

The top gainers in the Nifty midcap index were Torrent Power, Aditya Birla F, and Linde India  and the top losers were Bharat Forge, Oil India, and Emami

The smallcap top gainers were Godfrey Philips, Fine organics, and Linde India while the top losers were MCX India, Spice Jet, and Aegis Logistics

The most active stocks in the Nifty index in terms of value were Reliance, Adani Enter, and Apollo Hospital. The most active stocks in terms of volume were Tata Steel, Reliance, and ONGC

On the sectoral front, Realty, IT, Auto, and Consumer Durables closed higher while sectors closed in the red were FMCG and Pharma, 

 

Global stock market updates

 

On the global front, Asian markets were closed lower on Wednesday after the release of U.S. inflation data that came in hotter than expected. This raised the fear among investors that the U.S. Federal Reserve will continue to raise interest rates to curb inflation.

European stock market indexes are mostly trading higher, as investors mulled over the latest UK inflation figures and looked ahead to the release of US retail sales.
