Nifty below 19700, Sensex down 299 pts, ITC, Kotak stocks drag

 

Sensex and Nifty Today July 24, 2023: Indian stock markets ended a volatile session in the red on Monday. The domestic markets opened flat, as investors were cautious ahead of quarterly earnings and following mixed cues from Asian markets. Selling pressure in ITC, Kotak and heavyweight Reliance hit the domestic market sentiments.

Traders also remained cautious, amid a private report stating that India`s economy will grow at a solid pace for the rest of this fiscal year and next but well below its potential rate, and the employment situation will improve only slightly. However, the broader indices were managing to trade above their neutral lines. 

 

Stock Market Indexes Today

 

The Nifty 50 index closed lower by 72.65 points or 0.37 percent and closed at 19672.35 levels while the Sensex was down by 299.48 points or 0.45 percent and finished at 66384.78 levels. The Bank Nifty index ended lower by 152.15 points or 0.33 percent on the spot level and closed at 45923.05 levels

The broader markets ended mixed today, as the Nifty midcap index was down by 56.90 points or 0.15 percent and closed at 36742.60 levels. The Nifty smallcap index ended higher by 42.20 points or 0.37 percent at 11571.90 levels.

 

Nifty 50 top gainers & losers

 

The top gainers in the Nifty 50 index were SBI Life, IndusInd Bank, DR. Reddy, M&M, and Bajaj Finserve and the top losers were ITC, Kotak Bank, TechM, Reliance, and Britannia

The top gainers in the Nifty midcap index were REC Ltd, NHPC, and PFC,  and the top losers were Biocon, PayTM, and IGL

The smallcap top gainers were RITES, CanFin Home, and PNB Housing while the top losers were Tejas Net, Brightcom Group, and Indiamart

The most active stocks in the Nifty index in terms of value were Reliance, HDFC Bank, and ICICI Bank. The most active stocks in terms of volume were ITC, Tata Steel, and ICICI Bank.

On the sectoral front, Pharma, Realty, and Auto closed higher, while the indices that closed in the red were FMCG, Metal, and Energy.

 

Global Stock Market Today

 

Asian stock market indexes closed mixed on Monday, as investors digested the flash PMI data released today. According to flash PMI data, Japan’s output continues to rise but new order growth slows sharply. Nikkei and Kospi closed higher. Shanghai traded volatile and ended below the flatline. Hang Seng fell the most in the region and ended lower by over 2% due to a drag in real estate stocks.

European markets are trading flat on Monday as investors are cautious ahead of the Central Bank’s Interest rate decision later this week and big corporate earnings.
