Nifty End at 19680, Sensex Down 29 pts; Metal Stocks Shine
Sensex and Nifty Today July 25, 2023: Indian stock markets tarded volatile in a narrow range and ended on a flat note on Tuesday. The domestic market indexes opened higher and then erased all opening gains and traded near their neutral lines
Indian equity benchmarks were holding their heads above water in most parts of the day, aided by positive cues from other Asian markets. The domestic markets opened higher and then erased all opening gains and traded near their neutral lines.
Traders were getting some relief, amid reports that Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPIs) have pumped Rs 153,539 crore in India so far in 2023-24 as Indian equity markets continue to attract FPIs.
Besides, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said efficiency in income tax administration has helped increase revenues and check evasion, as she called upon tax officers to introspect on people`s perception of them.
Stock Market Indexes Today
The Nifty 50 index closed slightly by 8.25 points or 0.04 percent and closed at 19680.60 levels while the Sensex was down by 27.07 points or 0.04 percent and finished at 66355.71 levels. The Bank Nifty index ended lower by 78.05 points or 0.17 percent on the spot level and closed at 45845 levels
The broader markets ended mixed today, as the Nifty midcap index was up by 145.05 points or 0.39 percent and closed at 36887.65 levels. The Nifty smallcap index ended lower by 13 points or 0.11 percent at 11558.90 levels.
Nifty 50 top gainers & losers
The top gainers in the Nifty 50 index were Hindalco, Tata Steel, JSW Steel, NTPC, and Ultratech Cement and the top losers were ITC, L&T, Britannia, IndusInd Bank, and SBI
The top gainers in the Nifty midcap index were Adani Power, Motherson Sumi, and ZEEL and the top losers were L&TFH, Policybazar, and Navin Fluorine
The smallcap top gainers were Hind Copper, MGL,and Triveni while the top losers were MRPL, Zuzlon, and Bright Com Group
The most active stocks in the Nifty index in terms of value were HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, and ITC. The most active stocks in terms of volume were Tata Steel, ITC, and ICICI Bank
On the sectoral front, Metal, Media, and Energy closed higher while the sector that closed in the red were PSU Banks, FMCG, and Realty.
Global Stock Market Today
Asian stock market indexes mostly closed higher on Tuesday, as China’s Politburo pledged to support and optimize the policies for its weak property sector. China’s decision-making body has also pledged to generate employment in the country to boost consumption and handle debt risk.
Hang Seng gained the most closing around 4% higher after China’s support to the property sector, Hanh Seng tech index gained around 6% today. Shanghai index gained over 2% as China vows support to property sectors. Kospi erased intraday losses and closed positive while Nikkei ended marginally lower.
European stock markets opened on a cautious note and are trading slightly higher as investors remain cautious ahead of the Central Banks decision this week and quarterly earnings from big corporates.
