Stock market news and updates today

The Indian market indexes traded volatile throughout the day and later extended their early gains. Other than the positive Asian market cues, the falling crude oil prices have also supported the domestic markets today. The market sentiments were boosted as positive reports stating that the corporate profit to Gross Domestic Product (GDP) ratio rebounded to a decade high of 4.3 percent and 4.5 percent for the Nifty-500 universe and listed Indian companies, respectively.

The recovery was driven by the expansion in the economy after a Covid-led contraction in 2021, while corporate profit rose at a faster rate of 48 percent YoY for the Nifty 500 companies. The market upside was limited due to negative cues from the European markets and continuous selling pressure from the Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs).

On the global front, Asian markets mostly closed in the green on Thursday as the manufacturing activities in Japan continued to expand at a slow rate in the month of June. The latest survey from the Jibun Bank revealed  Japan’s Manufacturing PMI score of 52.7 in June as compared to 53.3 in May. The European markets are trading lower on recession fear now all eyes are on UK’s PMI survey data for June.
