Nifty end above 18200, Sensex up 126 pts today
Sensex and Nifty at the close today: Indian stock markets pared early losses and closed higher on Tuesday amid volatility. The Nifty 50 index gained 35.10 points or 0.19 percent and closed at 18232.55 levels while the Sensex closed higher by 126.41 points or 0.21 percent and finished at 61294.20 levels. The Bank Nifty index ended higher by 222.15 points or 0.51 percent on the spot level and ended at 43425.25
The broader markets outperformed the benchmarks today, as the Nifty midcap index was up by 73.90 points or 0.23 percent and closed at 31860.35 levels. The Nifty smallcap index gained by 26.75 points or 0.27 percent and closed at 9825.35 levels.
Nifty top gainers and losers today
The gainers in the Nifty 50 index were HDFC Life, SBI Life, Axis Bank, Titan Company, and TCS and the top losers were Hindalco, Britannia, M&M, JSW Steel, and Grasim.
The gainers in the Nifty midcap index were Power Finance, Max Financial, and Bank of India and the top losers were TVS Motors, M&M Financial, and Shriram Finance
The smallcap top gainers were Mazgaon Dock, Rail Vikas, and Future Retails, CSB Bank while the top losers were KEC Intl, Sterlite Techno, and Linde India
The most active stocks in the Nifty index in terms of value were Reliance, Tata Steel, and Infy. The most active stocks in terms of volume were Tata Steel, ONGC, and HDFC Life.
On the sectoral front, consumer durables, pharma, financial services, IT, and banking closed higher while media, metal, auto, and FMCG sectors closed in the red
Global stock market updates
On the global front, the major Asian market indexes pared early losses and closed in the green on Tuesday. The sentiments become positive as China is openings its borders and relaxing Covid restrictions despite rising covid cases.
However, traders remain concerned amid reports that aggressive monetary policy moves by global central banks this year also could tip the global economy into recession. European stock markets are trading higher following the positive cues from Asian peers.
