Nifty end near 18200, Sensex down 635 pts today
Sensex and Nifty 50 index at the close today: Indian markets fell sharply in the second half and closed lower. The volatility index “India Vix” rose 14 percent approx and later closed at a 15.52 level.
The equity benchmark indices Nifty 50 ended lower by 186.20 points or 1.01 percent and closed at 18199.10 levels while the Sensex declined by 635.05 points or 1.03 percent and finished at 61067.24 levels. The Bank Nifty index closed lower by 741.55 points or 1.71 percent on the spot level and ended at 42617.95
The broader markets underperformed the benchmarks today. The Nifty midcap index was down by 506.70 points or 1.58 percent and closed at 31610.30 levels. The Nifty smallcap index declined by 224.90 points or 2.24 percent and closed at 9795.30 levels.
Nifty 50 index top gainers and losers today
The top gainers in the Nifty 50 index were Divis Labs, Apollo Hospital, Cipla, Sun Pharma, and HCL Tech the top losers were Adani Enterprise, Adani Ports, IndusInd bank, Bajaj Finserve, and Ultratech Cement.
The top gainers in the Nifty midcap index were Glenmark, Dr. Lal Path, and Alembic Pharma and the top losers were City Union Bank, Indiabulls Hsg, and Dhani Services.
The smallcap top gainers were Thyrocare Tech, IOL Chemical, and Granules India while the top losers were Ircron International, PNB Hsg, and IRB Infra
The most active stocks in the Nifty index in terms of value were Adani Ent, Reliance, and ICICI Bank The most active stocks in terms of volume were Tata Steel, Tata Motors, and ICICI Bank
On the sectoral front, barring Pharma and IT all other sectoral indices closed in the red. The sectors that dragged down the markets were PSU Bank, Media, Metals, and Realty
Global stock market updates
On the global front, other Asian stock market indexes closed mixed on Wednesday following positive cues from Wall Street and as Taiwan`s export orders declined at a faster-than-expected rate in November. European stock market indexes are trading in the green despite mixed cues from Asian markets.
