Nifty ends above 17150, Sensex up 619 today
Indian stock markets opened higher on Wednesday amid mixed cues from the global markets. The market opened in an optimistic mood due to the strong economic data reported yesterday. The Nifty opened gap-up at 17104.40, up by 121.2 points while Sensex made a strong opening at 57365.85 levels up by 300.98 points.
Stock Market News
Indian markets were comfortably traded above their neutral lines today on continued buying activities by both funds and retail investors. The market sentiments were upbeat amid strong GDP data of over 8% in the July-September period, as the data showed by the government yesterday. With this, India continues to remain the fastest-growing large economies in the world.
As per the data shown by the government on Tuesday, the country’s eight core infrastructure industries grew by 7.5 percent in October 2021. This is as compared to the same month last year on account of healthy performance by segments like coal, natural gas, refinery products, and cement.
The Indian Manufacturing PMI hits 10- months high of 57.6 in November on strong demand. The PMI manufacturing has jumped from 55.9 recorded in October 2021. Further adding some more optimism in the market the GST collection for the month of November reported 1.31 lakh crores. It’s second-highest collection after hitting a high in April of Rs 1.39 lakh crore.
Stock Market at Close
At the close, Nifty gained by 183.70 points or 1.08 percent and closed at 17166.90 while Sensex up by 619.92 points or 1.09 percent and finished at 57684.79 levels. The Bank Nifty also closed higher by 669.60 points or 1.88 percent and ended at 36364.90 levels.
The broader markets closed higher today. The Nifty midcap index gained by 305.05 points or 1.03 percent and closed at 29955.70 levels. The Nifty smallcap index was up by 12.60 points or 0.12 percent and finished at 10673.50 levels.
Top Gainers & Losers
The top five gainers in the Nifty index were IndusInd Bank, JSW Steel, Tata Motors, Axis Bank, and Adani Ports. The top losers were Cipla, Divis Lab, Ultratrech Cement, Dr. Reddy, Bharti Airtel.
The Nifty midcap top gainers were Vodafone Idea, Indiabulls Housing, Union Bank and the losers were Glenmark, Pfizer, and Guj State Petro.
The Nifty smallcap top gainers were Chambal Fertiliser, Balrampur Chini, Just Dial, and the losers were Sonata, Trident, UTI AMC
The most active stocks in the Nifty index in terms of value were IndusInd Bank, Tata Motors, and Maruti. The most active stocks in terms of volume were Tata Motors, SBI, and NTPC.
