Indian stock market news today

Indian markets traded volatile in a short range today, buying in Metals, IT and FMCG stocks aided the market sentiments whereas Nifty Realty, Media, and PSU banking stocks tried to drag down the markets. Traders took note of a private report that the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) may go for a hike of up to 0.25 percent in the reverse repo rate at which the RBI absorbs excess liquidity and leave the repo rate at which it lends to narrow the policy rate corridor.

Meanwhile, FMCG stocks are trading in the green as the Economic Times reported that the country’s FMCG market grew 10 percent YoY in January 2022. As per the report, this is largely due to increased grocery and essential consumption during the third Covid-19 wave in the country.

On the global front, Asian markets closed higher despite weakness on Wall Street, as traders looked ahead to the release of the Labour Department’s closely watched monthly jobs report later during the day. Asian markets like Shangai and Taiwan remained closed for the Lunar New Year holidays. European markets are trading mixed on Friday on the back of better than expected results from Amazon and firmer oil stocks.
