Nifty ends above 19400, Sensex up 274 pts, Auto, FMCG gain

 

Sensex and Nifty Today July 11, 2023: Indian stock markets ended higher for the second consecutive day on Tuesday. The markets gained with the support of positive global cues and buying heavyweight stocks like Sun Pharma, Maruti, and HUL

Sentiments remained positive as the Income Tax department in its latest data has shown that net direct tax kitty increased 15.87 percent to Rs 4.75 lakh crore so far this fiscal over the net collections for the corresponding period of last year.

Further, sentiments were supported by the Indian rupee getting an appreciation of 23 paise to 82.36 against the dollar at the Interbank Foreign Exchange on increased selling of the US currency by exporters and banks.

 

Stock Market Indexes Today

 

The Nifty 50 index closed higher by 83.50 points or 0.43 percent and closed at 19439.40 levels while the Sensex was up by 273.68 points or 0.42 percent and finished at 65617.85 levels. The Bank Nifty index ended lower by 115.80 points or 0.26 percent on the spot level and closed at 44745.05 levels

The broader markets outperform their larger peers today, as the Nifty midcap index was up by 314.85 points or 0.88 percent and closed at 36252.90 levels. The Nifty smallcap index ended higher by 139.80 points or 1.26 percent at 11193.95 levels.

 

Nifty 50 top gainers & losers 

 

The top gainers in the Nifty 50 index were Sun Pharma, Eicher Motors, Apollo Hospital, Tata Consumer, and Maruti and the top losers were UPL, JSW Steel, Bajaj Finance, Axis Bank, and HCL Tech

The top gainers in the Nifty midcap index were Tata Communication, Polycab, and IDFC First and the top losers were Navin Fluorine, Deepak Nitrate, and Bandhan Bank

The smallcap top gainers were BDL, Coachin Shipayard, and Mazgaon Dock while the top losers were Brightcom Group, Amar Raja Battery, and IRB

The most active stocks in the Nifty index in terms of value were HDFC Bank, Reliance, and HDFC. The most active stocks in terms of volume were Tata Steel, HDFC Bank, and ICICI Bank

On the sectoral front,  Auto, FMCG, and Pharma closed higher while the sector that closed in the red were Financial Services, Bank, and Metal 

 

Global Stock Market Today

 

Asian markets closed higher on Tuesday, Kospi snapped a 6-day losing streak and gained the most in the region so far. Hang Seng also ended higher extending its previous session gains. Shanghai and Nikkei closed higher on Tuesday.

The European market is trading higher on Tuesday following gains from Wall Street and Asian markets overnight. The UK’s FTSE trading slightly lower, as the wage growth hit a record high in the three months to the end of May, raising concerns about an increase in inflation.
