Nifty Hits New Record High, Sensex up 240 Points; Pharma Stocks Lead

Sensex and Nifty Today Sept 12, 2023: Indian stock market indices opened a gap-up on Tuesday, following the positive cues from Wall Street overnight. The Nifty index hit a new record high and opened a gap-up by 113.8 points at 20110.15 levels, while Sensex also opened higher by 379.81 points at 67506.89 levels. The Bank Nifty opened a gap-up by 323.1 points at the 45893.80 level.

Market Live at 9.40 am IST, the Indian stock market indices, Sensex and Nifty are trading higher by 0.22 percent and 0.09 percent respectively. The Bank Nifty is trading higher by 0.21 percent at 9.40 IST. The broader markets are underperforming their larger peers, as the Nifty mid and smallcap indexes are trading lower by 1.44 percent and 1.80 percent respectively.

Among the sectors, Pharma, Banks, and Financial Services are gaining the most, while the Media, Energy, and Realty sectors are losing the most.

The top-gaining stocks in the Nifty 50 index are L&T, Divis Lab, Dr. Reddy, ICICI Bank, and Sun Pharma and the top losing stocks are Adani Ports, BPCL, Adani Enterprise, NTPC, and Coal India.

The most active stocks in NSE in terms of value are Reliance, L&T, and HDFC Bank, in terms of volume Power, Tata Steel, and ICICI Bank

 

Asian Stock Market Live Updates Today

 

The other Asian stock market indexes mostly recovered their early losses on Tuesday. Investors remain cautious ahead of key economic data due later this week. Japan’s Nikkei extended early gains and is trading higher by 0.85 percent.

Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 recovered early losses and turned positive by 0.10 percent, as the business confidence survey data came stronger than the previous month.

Hang Seng pared early losses and is trading flat, as shares of real estate developer Country Garden Holdings gained more than 8 percent. The Shanghai index is trading flat to positive while South Korea’s Kospi is trading lower by 0.45 percent.

Elsewhere, the Straits Times and Jakarta Composite are trading lower while Taiwan and SET Composite are trading higher at 9.15 am IST.
