Nifty holds 16000, Sensex ends 303 pts lower today
Nifty and Sensex Today 25 May 2022: Indian stock markets opened higher on Wednesday amid positive cues from the Asian markets. Nifty made a positive opening at 16196.35 levels up by 71.2 points while Sensex opened at 54254.07 levels, up by 201.46 points. Indian markets slipped in the late morning session despite the positive cues from other Asian markets and ended in the red today.
Stock Markets Updates Today
Traders got cautious as export of engineering goods to CIS countries including Russia and Ukraine fell the most YoY basis during April 2022, while that to North America registered the highest growth during this period, according to an EEPC India analysis. Some cautiousness was also seen among traders ahead of the FOMC minutes, which are expected later today.
Besides, the geopolitical tension pushes inflation in India and elsewhere higher, the top union ministers said the India growth story, in the long run, remains strong but necessary safeguards are being put in place to tackle the short terms issues and the government is open to taking further measures as well if required.
On the global front, Asian markets were closely mostly in the green on Wednesday, after Singapore’s GDP was up an annualized 3.7 percent in the first quarter of 2022. European markets recovered their early losses and are trading slightly higher at this moment at 3.30 m IST, investors eyed the latest minutes from FOMC expected later today.
Nifty and Sensex indexes at the close today
The Nifty index declined by 99.35 points or 0.62 percent and closed at 16025.80 levels while Sensex was down by 303.35 points or 0.56 percent and finished at 53749.26 levels. The Bank Nifty index ended higher today by 49.35 points or 0.14 percent on the spot level and ended at 34339.50
The broader markets were underperformed today. The Nifty midcap index declined by 676.60 points or 0.45 percent and closed at 26918.70 levels. The Nifty smallcap index closed lower by 309.90 points or 3.46 percent and finished at the 8638.95 level
Nifty top gainers and losers today
The top gainer in the Nifty 50 index was NTPC, HDFC Life, SBI Life, Bharti Airtel, and HDFC whereas the top losers were Asian Paints, Adani Ports, Divis Lab, TCS, and UPL
The top gainers in the Nifty midcap index were Container Corp, Balkrishna Industries, and Hind Zinc and the top losers were Coromendel Int, JSW Energy, and Coforge Ltd.
The smallcap top gainers were VIP Industries, Stride Pharma, and EID Parray and the top losers were Chambal Fertiliser, Delta Corp, and Granules India.
The most active stocks in the Nifty index in terms of value were Reliance, Infy, and Kotak Bank. The most active stocks in terms of volume were NTPC, ONGC, and ITC
On a sectoral front, only Banking and Financial Services were closed in the green today. The sectors that dragged the markets were.IT Media, Realty, Metals, Pharma, and Oil & Gas
