Nifty index end near 17500, Sensex up 550 pts today
Sensex and Nifty Index Today: It was an optimistic start for the Indian stock markets on Tuesday amid positive global cues. The Nifty index today opened at 17438.75 levels, up by 126.95 points while Sensex made a positive opening of 333.18 points at 58744.13 levels. Indian benchmarks traded in fine fettle and closed well above their previous closing.
Stock Market News and Updates Today
The market sentiments remained positive with RBI Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) member Jayanth R Varma’s statement that the inflation will come down as RBI has done its job of tightening the monetary policy, but it will take five to six quarters to see the impact and cool down prices.
Traders also took note of the RBI monthly bulletin saying India is poised to consolidate and accelerate the economic recovery over the rest of the year and the fight against inflation will be `dogged and prolonged`. The bulletin said that the momentum of real GDP growth is expected to shed the drag embedded in the NSO’s estimates for the first quarter of 2022-23 and move into positive territory in the remaining quarters.
On the global front, Asian markets closed higher on Tuesday tracking positive global cues. European markets are also trading higher on Tuesday after Britain’s new Finance Minister scrap the controversial mini-budget and improved the overall sentiments in the region.
Sensex and Nifty Index at the close today
The Nifty index was up by 175.15 points or 1.01 percent and closed at 17486.95 levels while the Sensex gained by 549.62 points or 0.94 percent and finished at 58960.60 levels. The Bank Nifty index ended higher today by 398.30 points or 1 percent on the spot level and ended at 40318.75
The broader markets also closed higher in line with the benchmarks today, as the Nifty midcap index gained by 335.35 points or 1.10 percent and closed at 30908 levels. The Nifty smallcap index closed higher today by 72.35 points or 0.76 percent at 9633.50 levels.
Nifty 50 Index top gainers and losers today
The top gainers in the Nifty 50 Stocks were SBI, Adani Ports, Eicher Motors, Nestle, and SBI Life and the top losers were NTPC, HDFC, Bajaj Auto, Tech Mahindra, and Britannia
The top gainers in the Nifty midcap index were BHEL, Canara Bank, and TVS Motors and the top losers were Tata Elxsi, Aarti Ind, and Navin Fluorine
The smallcap top gainers were Karur Vysya, Ujjivan Small, and Indian Bank while the top losers were Thyrocare Tech, Edelweiss, and Fine Organics
The most active stocks in the Nifty index in terms of value were Reliance, HDFC, and SBI. The most active stocks in terms of volume were Tata Steel, ITC, and NTPC
On the sectoral front, all sectoral indices closed in the green today. The sectors that gained the most were PSU Bank, Media, Realty, Auto FMCG, and Metals
