Nifty Nears 19,800, Sensex Dips 300 Points – Shocking Twist Amid Weak Global Cues

Sensex and Nifty Today Sept 21, 2023: Indian stock market indices opened lower on Thursday, following the negative cues from Wall Street overnight. The Nifty index opened lower by 60.85 points at 19840.55 levels, while Sensex also opened lower by 192.18 points at 66608.67 levels. The Bank Nifty opened a gap-down at 205 points at the 45179.60 level.

Market Live at 9.30 am IST, the Indian stock market indices, Sensex and Nifty are trading lower by 0.46 percent and 0.41 percent respectively. The Bank Nifty is also trading lower by 0.34 percent at 9.30 IST. The broader markets are also trading slightly higher, as the Nifty mid-cap is trading marginally higher by 0.20 percent, while the smallcap index is up by 0.19 percent.

Among the sectors, PSU Bank, Realty, and Pharma sectors are trading higher while IT, Financial Services, and FMCG sectors are dragging down the markets

The top-gaining stocks in the Nifty 50 index are Dr. Reddy, UPL, Hindalco, SBI, and Bajaj Finance and the top losing stocks are HCL Tech, LTIM, Ultratech Cement, ICICI Bank, and Grasim

The most active stocks in NSE in terms of value are HDFC Bank, Reliance, and Axis Bank, in terms of volume HDFC Bank, Tata Steel, and Power Grid.

 

Asian Stock Market Live Updates Today

 

The other Asian stock market indexes are trading lower on Thursday, following the losses from Wall Street overnight, as the US Fed holds interest rates but the tone was hawkish by indicating one more hike this year and fewer rate cuts in 2024.

Japan’s Nikkei extended early losses and is trading lower by 1.15 percent, as investors remain cautious ahead of Bank of Japan monetary policy decisions on Friday.

Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 and South Korea’s Kospi also extended their early losses and are trading sharply lower by 1.23 percent and 1.43 percent respectively. Shanghai and Hang Seng are trading lower by 0.51 percent and 1.21 percent respectively.

Elsewhere, Straits Times, Jakarta, and Taiwan are also down significantly, while SET Composite is trading flat to positive at 9 a.m. IST.
