Nifty and Sensex Dip While Small-Cap Index Soars, Pharma and FMCG Stocks Drag

Sensex and Nifty Today, 19 October 2023: Indian stock market indices opened lower on Friday, following the negative cues from the US markets. The Nifty index made a gap-down opening of 82.55 points at 19542.15 levels, while Sensex made a negative opening of 192.17 points at 65437.07 levels. The Bank Nifty opened lower by 170.25 points at the 43584.25 level.

Market Live at 9.35 am IST, the Indian stock market indices, Sensex and Nifty are trading marginally lower by 0.25 percent and 0.29 percent respectively. The Bank Nifty is trading slightly lower by 0.14 percent at 9.35 a.m. IST. The broader markets are trading mixed, as the Nifty midcap index is trading lower by 0.13 percent, while the smallcap index is trading higher by 0.29 percent.

Among the sectors, Realty, PSU Bank, and  Media are trading higher, while Pharma, FMCG, and IT are falling the most.

The top-gaining stocks in the Nifty 50 index are Nestle, Tata Motors, Adani Enterprise, Adani Ports, and IndusInd Bank and the top losing stocks are HUL, DivisLabs, ITC, HCL tech, and Dr. Reddy.

The most active stocks in NSE in terms of value are HDFC Bank, Tata Motors, and Reliance in terms of volume Tata Motors, ITC, and Power Grid

 

Asian Stock Market Live Updates Today

 

The other Asian stock market indexes are trading lower on Friday following the negative cues from Wall Street overnight. The market sentiments are downbeat as US Fed Chair Jerome Powell said inflation is still high and would likely require lower economic growth. The US Treasury yields spiked at record levels on Thursday. 

Japan’s Nikkei erased some early losses and is trading lower by 0.14 percent as the inflation rate cools down to 3% in September from 3.2% in August and core inflation also slowed to 2.8% in September from 3.1% in August. Australia’s S&P ASX 200 index is down 1.11 percent.

South Korea’s Kospi extended early losses and is trading lower by 1.58 percent. Shanghai and Hang Seng indexes are marginally down by 0.27 percent and 0.29 percent respectively. Elsewhere, the Straits Times, SET Composite, Jakarta, and Taiwan are also trading in the red at 9.10 a.m. IST.
