Nifty, Sensex end flat today; PSU Bank, Realty drag

 

Sensex & Nifty at close: Indian stock markets erased early gains and closed flat to negative amid mixed cues from Asian counterparts. Investors remain cautious ahead of the monthly F&O expiry and FOMC minute which is due on Wednesday.

The Nifty 50 index closed lower by 17.90 points or 0.10 percent and closed at 17826.70 levels while the Sensex was down by 18.82 points or 0.03 percent and finished at 60672.72 levels. The Bank Nifty index ended in the red, down by 28.10 points or 0.07 percent on the spot level, and closed at 40673.60 levels

The broader markets also closed in the red today, as the Nifty midcap index was down by 110.10 points or 0.36 percent and closed at 30556.80 levels. The Nifty smallcap index closed lower by 33.75 points or 0.36 percent at 9351.45 levels.

 

Nifty top gainers & losers

 

The top gainers in the Nifty 50 index were NTPC, Britannia, Reliance, Tata Steel, and Power Grid and the top losers were Adani Enterpr, Apollo Hospital, Coal India, Bajaj Auto, and Tata Motors

The top gainers in the Nifty midcap index were IEX, Tube Investment, and Delhivery and the top losers were Tata Tele Services, Bank of India, and Prestige Estate

The smallcap top gainers were Shilpa, IRB Infra, and GMM Pfaulder while the top losers were Alok Industries, CSB Bank, and Tanla Platforms

The most active stocks in the Nifty index in terms of value were Reliance, HDFC Bank, and ICICI Bank. The most active stocks in terms of volume were Tata Steel, NTPC, and ICICU Bank

On the sectoral front, FMCG, Financial Services, and Consumer Durables closed in the green today. The sectors that closed in the deep red were PSU Bank, Realty, IT, and Media 

 

Global stock market updates

 

Asian stock market indexes closed mixed on Tuesday, investors await regional private surveys for factory activity. Japan’s Nikkei closed lower as flash PMI data in February showed a contraction in factory activity. While Hang Seng declined due to a slide in Tech stocks. 

Shanghai closed higher as the export data fell in February but at a slower pace as compared to the previous month. European markets are trading lower on Tuesday, following the weakness in Asian markets and investors analyzed the UK’s borrowing figure.
