Nifty ends above 17200, top gainers and losers today
Top Gainers and Losers Today: Indian stock markets opened higher on Thursday after the previous day’s selloff amid positive cues from the Asian markets. The Nifty today opened at 17189.50 up by 151.1 points while Sensex made a positive opening of 476.92 points at 57206.31 levels. The benchmark indices traded above their natural line and later extended their early gains today.

The domestic market sentiments remained upbeat, as the Centre approved the continuation of the Prime Minister Street Vendor’s AtmaNirbhar Nidhi (PM SVANidhi) scheme till December 2024. Further boosting the market sentiments, a private report stated that as the country recovers from the pandemic, the retail industry has resumed its growth trajectory and is likely to witness 10 percent annual growth to reach approx $2 trillion by 2032.
On the global front, the other Asian markets closed higher today after the industrial production in Japan was up in March as the latest data showed. The Bank of Japan keeps the interest rates unchanged and pledges for ultra-loose policy. European markets are trading higher on Thursday as investors digested quarterly earnings reports and corporate news and eye on Russia’s threat to cut gas supplies to Poland and Bulgaria
Nifty and Sensex indexes at the close today
At the close, the Nifty index gained 206.65 points or 1.21 percent and closed at 17245.05 levels while Sensex was up by 701.67 points or 1.23 percent and finished at 57521.06 levels. The Bank Nifty index ended higher today by 393.35 points or 1.09 percent on spot and ended at 36422.20 levels.
The broader markets were underperformed as compared to benchmarks as Nifty midcap and smallcap ended slightly higher. The Nifty midcap index gained by 180.30 points or 0.60 percent and closed at 30134.60 levels. The Nifty smallcap index closed higher by 37.65 points or 0.36 percent and finished at 10376.90 levels.
Nifty top gainers and losers today
The top gainers in the Nifty 50 index were HUL, HDFC Life, SBI Life, UPL, and Asian Paints whereas the top losers were Bajaj Auto, Hindalco, Bharti Airtel, M&M, and HCL Tech.
The top gainers in the Nifty midcap index were Godrej Agrovet, Coromandel Int, and Indian Hotel and the top losers were Bombay Burmah, Dr. Lal Path Lab, and JSW Energy.
The smallcap top gainers were Fine organics, KEI Industries, and Sequent Scientific, and the top losers were TV18 Broadcast, Alok Industries, and Future Retail.
The most active stocks in the Nifty index in terms of value were Reliance, Bajaj Finance, and Infosys The most active stocks in terms of volume were NTPC, ITC, and Hindalco
On a sectoral front, barring Media all other sectoral indices closed higher today. The sectoral indices that rallied the most were FMCG, Oil & Gas, Banks, Financials, and IT
