Closing Bell: Sensex and Nifty end slightly lower today

 

Closing Bell- Sensex and Nifty: Today Indian stock markets indexes trimmed some intraday losses and closed marginally lower on Tuesday. The Nifty 50 index closed lower by 34 points or 0.20 percent and closed at 16951.70 levels while the Sensex was down by 40.14 points or 0.07 percent and finished at 57613.72 levels. The Bank Nifty index ended higher by 136.60 points or 0.35 percent on the spot level and closed at 39567.90 levels

The broader markets underperformed the frontline indexes today, as the Nifty midcap index was down by 101.85 points or 0.35 percent and closed at 29324.75 levels. The Nifty smallcap index closed lower by 80.25 points or 0.91 percent at 8701.40 levels.

 

Nifty 50 top gainers & losers 

 

The top gainers in the Nifty 50 index were IndusInd Bank, UPL, Dr. Reddy, Power Grid, and HDFC Bank and the top losers were Adani Enterprise, Adani Ports, TechM, Hero Motor, and Tata Motor

The top gainers in the Nifty midcap index were Torrent Power, Emami, and Bank of India and the top losers were Adani Wilmar, TTML, and IEX

The smallcap top gainers were Manappuram Fin, Route, and IIFL while the top losers were Brightcom Group, Alok Industries, and Elgie Equipements.

The most active stocks in the Nifty index in terms of value were HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, and Adani Enterprise The most active stocks in terms of volume were ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, and Adani Ports

On the sectoral front, Banking and Financial sectoral indices ended higher while Media, Realty, and Auto closed in the red.

 

Global stock markets

 

On the global front, the other Asian stock market indexes closed mostly higher after the recent banking turmoil in US and Europe eased and investors bets on beaten-down banking stocks. Hang Seng gained more than 1 percent leading gains in the region. Australia’s index ended higher as retail sales jumped compared to the previous year. 

While China’s Shanghai closed slightly lower today. European stock market indexes are trading marginally higher following the gains in Asian peers and mixed cues from Wall Street. In the US, Dow futures are trading marginally higher while Nasdaq futures are trading slightly down at 3 pm IST
