Sensex and Nifty end flat today, Metal stocks shine
Sensex and Nifty today: Indian stock markets opened flat on Monday amid positive cues from the Asian markets. The Nifty index opened at 18719.55 levels, up by only 23.45 points while Sensex made a flat to negative opening at 62865.28 levels, down only 3.22 points. The domestic market indexes traded below their neutral line most of the day and closed almost flat at the end.
Stock Market News and Updates Today
The domestic market sentiments were negative, as investors were cautious ahead of the RBI Monetary policy committee meeting which started today. The outcome of the 3-day RBI meeting is expected on 7th December. However, the lower side remained capped as Indian services activity measured by the S&P Global India Services PMI Business Activity Index grew from 55.1 in October to 56.4 in November.
On the global front, the other Asian stock market indexes were mostly closed in the green on Monday as investors were optimistic that the US Fed would slow down the pace of interest rates in the next week’s meeting. Europen markets are trading almost flat looking for direction ahead of the Services PMI data which is due later in the day.
Sensex and Nifty at the close today
The Nifty 50 index was up by 4.95 points or 0.03 percent and closed at 18701.05 levels while the Sensex declined 33.90 points or 0.05 percent and finished at 62834.60 levels. The Bank Nifty index closed higher by 229.20 points or 0.53 percent on the spot level and ended at 43332.95
The broader markets outperformed the benchmarks today. The Nifty midcap index gained 80.10 points or 0.25 percent and closed at 32646.95 levels. The Nifty smallcap index was up by 43.35 points or 0.43 percent and closed at 10123.30 levels.
Nifty 50 index top gainers and losers today
The top gainers in the Nifty 50 index were Hindalco, Tata Steel, UPL, Coal India, and ONGC and the top losers were Apollo Hospital, Tata Motors, Reliance, Tech Mahindra, and SBI Life
The top gainers in the Nifty midcap index were M&M Financial, AB Capital, and Mannapuram Fin and the top losers were BHEL, TVS Motors, and Dalmia Bharat
The smallcap top gainers were JK Lakshmi Cement, BEML, and Strides Pharma, while the top losers were Rail Vikas, Future Retail, and APL Apollo
The most active stocks in the Nifty index in terms of value were Reliance, Rara Steel, and ICICI Bank The most active stocks in terms of volume were Tata Steel, ONGC, and Hindalco
On the sectoral front, Metals, PSU Bank, Banking, Realty, and Financial Services closed in the green while IT, Auto Pharma, and Oil and Gas closed in the red today.
