Sensex, Nifty erase gains, end slightly higher today
Sensex and Nifty Today: Indian stock market indexes opened higher on Friday amid mixed cues from Asian markets. Nifty today opened at 17622.85 crores, up by 58.9 points while Sensex made a positive opening of 178.46 points at 59381.36 levels. In the end, Indian markets erased most of their early gains and closed slightly higher on Friday.
Stock Market News and Updates Today
The domestic markets were in an optimistic mood in the early session with healthy buying in Banks, PSU, and FMCG counters. The market sentiments were boosted as Foreign Institutional investors (FIIs) were net buyers in the Indian equity markets on Thursday. FIIs turned buyers after continuously selling in nine trading sessions.
However, the upside remained capped amid concerns over Labour Ministry data showing retail inflation for farm and rural workers increased to 7.69 percent and 7.9 percent respectively in September this year. The hike was attributed to higher prices of certain food items.
On the global front, most of the Asian market indexes were closed lower today, following the broadly negative cues from Wall Street overnight. Traders remained cautious as concerns about the outlook for interest rates continue to drive global yields higher. Shanghai closed higher as the Chinese government is likely to relax covid-19 related restrictions. European stock market indexes are trading in the red following the negative sentiments from the global markets.
Sensex and Nifty at the close today
The Nifty index was up by 12.35 points or 0.07 percent and closed at 17576.30 levels while the Sensex gained by 104.25 points or 0.18 percent and finished at 59307.15 levels. The Bank Nifty index ended higher today by 684.50 points or 1.71 percent on the spot level and ended at 40784.05
The broader markets underperformed compared to benchmarks today, as the Nifty midcap index declined by 209.50 points or 0.68 percent and closed at 30691.85 levels. The Nifty smallcap index closed lower today by 13.55 points or 0.14 percent at 9653.50 levels.
Nifty 50 Stocks top gainers and losers today
The top gainers in the Nifty 50 Stocks were Axis Bank, Kotak Bank, ICICI Bank, HUL, and SBI Life and the top losers were Bajaj Finance, Bajaj Finserve, Adani Ports, Divis Lab, and UPL
The top gainers in the Nifty midcap index were Union Bank, Gujarat Gas, and Canara Bank, and the top losers were Laurus Labs, Mphasis, and Bharat Elec
The smallcap top gainers were Spice jet, JB Chemicals, and Alok Industries while the top losers were Route, CSB Bank, and EID Parry
The most active stocks in the Nifty index in terms of value were Axis Bank, Bajaj Finance, and ICICI Bank The most active stocks in terms of volume were Axis Bank, Tata Steel, and ITC
On the sectoral front, Nifty PSU Bank, Banking, and Financial Services closed in the green today. The sectors that closed in the red were Media, Metals, Pharma, Oil & Gas, and IT
