Stock Market News Today

Soon after opening a gap down, the domestic markets tried to recover their losses in the late morning session. Losses got trimmed, as the RBI data showed that bank credit grew by 10.9 percent to Rs 119.88 lakh crore and deposits by 10.06 percent to Rs 167.42 lakh crore in the fortnight ended on April 8.

However, negative cues from other Asian markets kept Indian equity markets in red terrain throughout the day. Traders were cautious by the hawkish comment made by the Fed’s chair Jerome Powell regarding aggressive rate hikes in the next meeting scheduled in May to curb inflation.

On the global front, the other Asian markets mostly closed in the red as sentiments got hit due to the continued lockdown in China’s important cities. Traders are now concerned about its impact on the economic growth of 2nd largest economy in the world. European markets are trading in the red as US Fed Chairman Jerome Powell suggested a 50-basis-point rate increase “will be on the table” when the bank meets on May 3-4. The sharper than expected UK retail sales also dented European markets.
