Market Live Today 4 May: Indian stock markets are trading lower, metals, and banking stocks are in focus

 

Market Live Today, 4 May– Indian stock markets opened higher amid mixed cues from the global markets. Nifty opened at 14687.25 levels, made a positive opening of 53.1 points while Sensex made a gap up opening of 163.11 points, and opened at 48881.63 levels. The Bank Nifty on the spot price opened at 32610.40 levels, up by 144.65 points from yesterday’s close.

At 9.55 am IST, Sensex and Nifty are trading lower by  0.08 percent and 0.12 percent respectively whereas Bank Nifty on the spot price is trading 0.71 percent higher.

Hindalco, Coal India, and IOC are trading as the top Nifty50 gainers whereas HUL, Reliance, and Shree Cement are trading as the top losers. The most active stocks at this moment in the Nifty50 index are Tata Steel, Adani Ports, and Reliance.

On a sectoral basis, Metals, Banks, and Real Estate sectors are trading higher whereas FMCG, Oil & Gas, and Construction materials sectors are trading lower.

 

Indian stock market may open flat to negative

Asian markets are mostly trading in the red on Tuesday. Nikkei and Shanghai are not trading today due to a long holiday this week. Hang Seng is trading flat at this moment whereas SGX Nifty is trading lower by 0.20 percent. Asian market cues are negative for the domestic market today. Indian markets may open flat to the negative today. 

The US markets closed mixed on Monday as inventors have shown interest in buying shares of economically sensitive companies by selling technology stocks. The US market indexes Dow and S&P 500 gained 0.70 percent and 0.20 percent respectively whereas Nasdaq was down by 0.48 percent on Monday.

The European markets closed higher on Monday due to strong factory and retail sales data and robust quarterly earnings. The traders remained optimistic as European Commission outlined a plan to loosen Coronavirus-related restrictions on tourism. The European market indices CAC and DAX gained 0.61 percent and 0.66 percent respectively. FTSE was up by 0.12 percent on Monday.

Indian stock markets recovered all intraday losses on Monday and closed almost flat after volatile trade. Nifty gained 3.01 points or 0.02 percent while Sensex was down by 63.84 points or 0.13 percent. FIIs were sellers and DIIs were the buyers in the cash market on Monday. FIIs sold Rs 2289.48 crores while DIIs bought Rs 552.92 crores on 3 May.

The surge in coronavirus cases and lockdowns imposed at several places in April has impacted over 75 lakh of jobs. The country’s unemployment has touched at four monthly high of 8 percent according to the CMIE report. This is as compared to the nation’s unemployment rate of 6.5 in the month of March.

The country’s rating agency, India Rating and Research expect the overall recovery for India’s service sectors to be slow down in FY22. This is due to major supply-side disruption from the second wave of coronavirus infections. The agency also expects the impact of the pandemic to spill over in FY23
