Stock Market Today: Nifty ends above 17800, Sensex up 169 pts

 

 

Stock Market Today 26 April 2023: Indian stock markets opened slightly lower on Wednesday following negative cues from Wall Street and Asian markets. The domestic markets erased their early losses soon after opening and closed higher near the day’s high.

 

Stock Market Indexes Today

 

The Nifty 50 index closed higher by 44.35 points or 0.25 percent and closed at 17813.60 levels while the Sensex was up by 169.87 points or 0.28 percent and finished at 60300.58 levels. The Bank Nifty index ended higher by 151.40 points or 0.35 percent on the spot level and closed at 42829.90 levels

The broader markets also ended higher today, as the Nifty midcap index was up by 48.25 points or 0.15 percent and closed at 31228.85 levels. The Nifty smallcap index closed higher by 43.45 points or 0.46 percent at 9516.30 levels.

 

Nifty 50 top gainers & losers 

 

The top gainers in the Nifty 50 index were Power Grid, Nestle, Tata Consumer, IndusInd Bank, and L&T and the top losers were Adani Ports, Bajaj Auto, Bajaj Finserve, NTPC, and Reliance

The top gainers in the Nifty midcap index were NHPC, Idea, and Adani Power and the top losers were Ipca Labs, Poonawala Fincorp, and Crompton

The smallcap top gainers were GNFC, KPIT Tech, and KEI while the top losers were MCX, Brightcom Group, and Balaji Mines

The most active stocks in the Nifty index in terms of value were ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, and Axis Bank The most active stocks in terms of volume were  ICICI Bank, Tata Steel, and SBI.

On the sectoral front, Realty, FMCG, Auto, and PSU Bank closed higher. The sectors that closed in the red were Metal and Energy.

 

Global Stock Markets Today

 

On the global front, Asian market indexes were closed mixed after banking fears renewed from Wall Street, as First Republic Bank tanked 49% after the regional bank posted mixed corporate results and said its deposits dropped 40%. Investors are looking for more corporate results and economic data from the US. 

European market indexes are trading lower taking their cue from a downbeat session on Wall Street after the First Republic Bank reported mixed results and tanked almost 50% of its share value. Mining stocks are performing well after following heavy losses in the previous session.
