Trade setup for Monday– Good morning and welcome to the morning reports, the top things to know before the stock market opens today April 25, 2022

Asian markets are trading in the deep red on Monday tracking negative cues from the US markets on Friday. Nikkei is trading lower by 1.66 percent while Shanghai and Hang Seng are trading lower by 2.24 percent and 2.66 percent respectively. SGX Nifty is also trading lower by 205 points or 1.20 percent and at 16974 levels. 

The indications getting from the Asian markets are negative, Indian stock markets are likely to open a gap down today.

 

The US and European market Indexes update

 

The US market indexes fell sharply on Friday as investors worried about slowing corporate earnings and getting ready for more aggressive monetary policy tightening by the Federal Reserve in the next month. Dow Jones fell nearly 1000 points on the last day of the week, registering the worst day since 2020. At the close, Dow Jones and S&P 500 fell 2.82 percent and 2.77 percent while Nasdaq was down by 2.55 percent on Friday.

European markets closed in the deep red on Friday as the prospect of a faster rate hike in the US sparked heavy losses in European shares after the hawkish remark made by the Federal Reserve. The investors were also worried as Russia intensifies its attack on Ukraine. The European market indexes FTSE and CAC closed lower by 1.39 percent and 1.99 percent respectively while DAX was down by 2.48 percent on the last day of the week.

Indian stock market updates

 

Indian stock market indexes fell sharply and closed near the day’s low on Friday. The benchmark indexes Sensex and Nifty closed lower by 1.23 percent and 1.27 percent respectively. FIIs were the sellers and DIIs were the buyers in the equity cash segment. FIIs sold Rs 2461.72 crore while DIIs bought Rs 1602.35 crore in the equity cash segment on Friday.

According to the RBI data shown on Friday, India’s foreign exchange reserves fell by $ 311 million to reach USD 603.694 billion in the week ended April 15. The reserve has declined by #2.471 billion to stand at $604.004 billion in the previous week ended April 8.

The multinational investment banking company, UBS has trimmed India’s 2022-23 economic growth forecast by 70 bps to 7% on Friday. This is due to slowing global growth due to high commodity prices and weak local demand because of energy price hikes, inflationary pressure, and a struggling labor market according to the Switzerland-based financial services company.

The government has slashed the much-awaited LIC IPO size to 3.5 percent from 5 percent and planning to raise Rs 21000 crore by selling the stake. The Centre has filed a revised draft with the SEBI which is likely to give node to the preliminary documents by April 25, as per CNBC TV18 report on 24 April.
