US Markets LIVE: Dow up, Nasdaq down after Netflix,Tesla earnings
US Markets Live Updates 20 July 2023: Dow and Nasdaq Index Today: The US stock market indexes opened mixed on Thursday, as investors analyzed earnings reports of Tesla and Netflix. Dow Jones opened 30.77 points higher at the 35091.98 level while S&P 500 made a negative opening of 11.34 points 4554.38 level. The tech-heavy Nasdaq also opened lower by 84.73 points at the 14273.29 level.
US Market News
The share price of Tesla declined more than 7 percent despite beating profit estimation after it said that the production could see some slowdown in the July-Sept quarter due to its factories’ upgradation. Netflix’s share is down more than 8 percent as its revenue declined slightly lower than expectations.
The pharmaceutical major Johnson & Johnson gained more than 6 percent after beating its revenue and profit expectations and raising its outlook for the full year.
On the economic front, the weekly jobless claims data ending for the week on 15 July showed falling again by 9000 to 228000, the expectation was 244000. Meanwhile, the existing home sales data fell 3.3 percent from the previous month and came below expectations.

At 12.15 EDT, Dow Jones extended its gains and is trading higher by 299 points or 0.85 percent at the 35360.80 level while S&P 500 trimmed some early losses and is trading lower by 6.92 points or 0.15 percent at 4558.80 levels. The tech-heavy Nasdaq extended its losses and is trading lower by 150.42 points or 1.05 percent at 14207.60 levels.
