Weekly Global and Indian Stock Markets Analysis

Weekly Analysis- Indian & Global Stock Markets (16 – 20 May): Indian stock markets were highly volatile during the week ended 20 May 2022. Sensex and Nifty snapped a five-week losing streak and gained around 3 percent for the week. On the sectoral front, barring IT, all other sectoral indices closed in the green, with metal, auto, and FMCG  gaining the most. The broader markets also gained in line with their larger peers.

The domestic markets gained with the support of positive Asian market cues. The news of the reopening of businesses in Shanghai and the China bank key rate cut boosted the market sentiments during the week. However, the upside remained capped due to the fear of global recession, as United Nations significantly lowered its forecast for global economic growth in the current year from 4 percent to 3.1 percent.
